Costco Membership Deals: StackSocial, Groupon, Perks, Restrictions and Alternatives

Last checked: October 30, 2026 | U.S. membership offers
Costco membership promotions can make joining more attractive, especially when a new membership comes with a Digital Costco Shop Card. But the biggest advertised bonus is only part of the decision. Eligibility rules, activation deadlines, renewal charges, delivery markups and the membership tier you choose can all affect the real value.
At the time of checking, StackSocial, Groupon and Costco itself advertise a $45 Digital Costco Shop Card with eligible new memberships. Gold Star costs $65 annually and Executive costs $130, before applicable tax. The offers are generally aimed at new members or qualifying former members, rather than existing members renewing their accounts.
This guide compares the main public offers and specialist eligibility channels identified in our research. It also explains how to activate a membership, use its benefits and decide whether Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s or ordinary shopping without a warehouse membership makes more sense. It is not a guarantee that every targeted or local offer is included.

What “effectively $20” actually means
With a $65 membership and a $45 Shop Card, you pay $65 upfront, plus any applicable tax. You receive the spending bonus later after satisfying the promotion. Subtracting that $45 gives a first-year effective cost of $20 if you receive and fully use it on purchases you would otherwise make.
The same calculation makes a $130 Executive membership effectively $85 after a $45 card. Neither calculation means the checkout price is $20 or $85. The bonus is not a $45 bank refund, and it should not be treated as a recurring annual discount.
1. StackSocial: a membership voucher with a separate redemption step
Compare our $65 Costco Gold Star membership with a $45 Shop Card offer for a dedicated deal summary.
StackSocial’s Gold Star listing advertises a one-year membership for $65 with a $45 Digital Costco Shop Card. Its Executive listing offers the higher tier for $130 with the same advertised card amount.
The Gold Star page specifies a December 20, 2026 purchase deadline and January 31, 2027 redemption deadline. Qualifying customers should receive the Shop Card by email within two weeks after successful redemption. The offer covers eligible U.S. and Puerto Rico customers.
How to use it
- Open the relevant StackSocial offer and confirm the membership tier.
- Read its eligibility, refund and redemption terms before payment.
- Buy the offer and retain the receipt and emailed redemption instructions.
- Follow the supplied Costco enrollment link and code instructions before the deadline.
- Save the Costco enrollment confirmation and monitor your email, including spam, for the bonus.
Buying the voucher is not the same as completing Costco enrollment. The listing excludes renewal and upgrade use, limits the promotion by household, excludes additional coupon discounts and prohibits combining it with another promotion. Once redeemed, its terms state that refunds are not allowed through StackSocial. Review both the voucher seller’s terms and Costco’s separate membership guarantee.

2. Groupon: the same headline bonus, with different activation rules
See our Costco Gold Star $65 membership and $45 Digital Shop Card deal and check the seller and activation terms shown on the deal page.
Groupon currently lists Gold Star for $65 and Executive for $130, each with a $45 Digital Shop Card. Its terms say the membership is redeemed and the one-year period begins immediately when the voucher is purchased.
The listing specifies purchase by January 3, 2027. It says the bonus is loaded into the member’s Costco Wallet within two weeks after qualifying sign-up. A Costco.com account, verified membership and the Costco app are required to access it.
How to use it
- Select the tier on the live Groupon page and review the final checkout terms.
- Purchase using accurate member information.
- Keep the confirmation and membership number supplied.
- Create or sign in to your Costco.com account and verify the membership.
- Download the Costco app and check Costco Wallet for the bonus.
- Bring the required identification to the warehouse membership counter to obtain your physical card.
Restrictions include one voucher per person, U.S. validity, a minimum purchase age of 18, no existing-membership upgrades or renewals, no combination with another promotion and exclusion from Groupon promo codes. The listing states that all sales are final. Avoid buying months before you intend to shop, because the membership clock starts immediately.

3. Costco directly: check the promotion before enrolling
Read our Costco new-member $45 Digital Shop Card offer for the enrollment requirements and key restrictions.
Costco’s current join page advertises a $45 Digital Shop Card for eligible Gold Star and Executive sign-ups, valid through December 20, 2026. It requires auto-renewal at enrollment using an eligible Visa credit/debit card or Mastercard debit card. It excludes anyone who has held a Primary, Household or Affiliate membership within the past 18 months.
Current deal reporting identifies NEWMBR26 as the promotional code. Enter it if the enrollment flow requests it and verify that the offer appears before submitting payment. A standard membership purchase without the qualifying promotion should not be assumed to earn the bonus.

The separate Citi credit-card offer
The join page also advertises a $65 Digital Shop Card tied to a new Executive membership and approval for the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi. This is a different, credit-approval-dependent promotion. Do not add it to the $45 offer unless the applicable terms expressly permit combining them. A credit-card application deserves a separate decision from choosing a warehouse membership.
4. UNiDAYS: student verification does not automatically mean a bigger bonus
Explore our Costco student membership offer with up to a $40 Digital Shop Card for the Gold Star and Executive student options.
UNiDAYS lists student promotions advertising a $20 Shop Card with a new Gold Star membership and $40 with Executive. Its Gold Star page requires verified UNiDAYS membership and auto-renewal.
Start from the UNiDAYS Costco page, verify your student status and follow its enrollment route. Compare the offer shown with the public $45 promotion before committing. A specialist student offer can be less valuable than a temporary public offer.
Do not complete one enrollment expecting a second bonus from another channel. Check the offer’s rules about combining promotions.
5. SheerID: offers for verified occupational groups
See our Costco membership offers through SheerID for teachers, military and more to find the relevant verification route.
SheerID’s Costco directory lists separate new-membership promotions for government employees, first responders, medical professionals, military members and teachers.
Select your category, complete the requested verification and read the resulting Costco offer. The directory confirms these channels exist, but the directory page alone does not establish a single bonus amount for every group. Do not assume all military family members, school employees or healthcare workers qualify without checking the specific definition.
Verification gives access to the applicable promotion; it does not replace membership eligibility requirements. Someone who qualifies occupationally may still be excluded because they already have a Costco membership.
6. WeSalute: another eligibility-based route
Read our Costco new-member bonus of a $20 or $40 Digital Shop Card through WeSalute and confirm which membership tier qualifies for each amount.
WeSalute advertises up to a $40 Digital Shop Card for eligible new Costco members. Its listing describes military and other qualifying service or education groups.
Confirm the exact amount, tier and verification requirements before following the enrollment link. “Up to $40” does not mean every applicant receives $40. Compare it with the public $45 offer available at the time you join.
7. ID.me, PCWorld and other deal websites: identify who actually sells the offer
ID.me Shop provides another place to check Costco-related offers. Its Groupon store page also lists a Costco membership promotion. These listings can have different update dates, so use the final seller page to establish the current bonus and restrictions.
PCWorld’s Costco offer article promotes the $65 Gold Star membership with a $45 card through December 20. Publisher shops and articles may route to StackCommerce offers. Check the destination seller, rather than assuming a different publication represents a different Costco promotion.
Slickdeals, Doctor of Credit, DealNews and Hip2Save are useful discovery and comparison sources. A deal article is not the contract governing your purchase: its linked merchant’s current terms control.
Can you add cashback or a card-linked credit?
Some shoppers may see targeted portal rewards, Fetch offers or card-linked promotions. Hip2Save currently reports account-dependent Fetch offers, and Slickdeals reports a targeted Amex/Groupon combination. These are conditional opportunities, not guaranteed discounts for everyone.
Before counting any extra reward, verify that Costco memberships are eligible, the seller is covered, any activation requirement is met, the spending threshold is satisfied and the terms permit the purchase route you intend to use. An “up to” cashback headline may apply to other categories. Keep unconfirmed cashback out of your guaranteed-cost calculation.
Gold Star or Executive: which membership should you choose?
| Feature | Gold Star | Executive |
|---|---|---|
| Standard annual fee before applicable tax | $65 | $130 |
| Warehouse and Costco.com shopping | Included | Included |
| Household membership card | Included | Included |
| Annual Costco Executive 2% Reward | No | On eligible spending, up to $1,250 |
| Executive shopping hours | No | Included at participating warehouses under current rules |
| Monthly qualifying Same-Day credit | No | $10, subject to requirements |
Gold Star is a sensible starting point for occasional shoppers or households unsure how much they will spend. Executive can suit households with substantial qualifying purchases or practical use for its extra benefits.

Executive break-even calculation
Executive costs $65 more annually. At 2%, you need $3,250 in eligible annual purchases, about $271 monthly, to earn $65 and cover that additional fee through the reward alone.
| Eligible annual spending | Illustrative 2% Reward | Reward minus $65 upgrade cost |
|---|---|---|
| $1,500 | $30 | −$35 |
| $3,250 | $65 | $0 |
| $5,000 | $100 | +$35 |
| $8,000 | $160 | +$95 |
| $10,000 | $200 | +$135 |
These calculations assume a full year of qualifying spending and ignore tax, returns, other benefits and reward timing. Covering the upgrade is different from covering the entire $130 membership fee: that would require $6,500 of eligible spending at 2%.
Purchases that do not earn the Executive reward
Costco’s exclusions include gasoline, membership fees, Costco Shop Cards, tobacco, food-court purchases, taxes and certain other charges. Alcohol and prescription exclusions vary by state; alcohol purchases in Massachusetts are excluded. Many third-party services also do not qualify. Check the complete list before estimating your reward.
Purchases made before upgrading do not count retroactively. Qualifying travel earns its reward after travel is completed. The Executive reward is separate from a promotional Shop Card and any credit-card reward.

How to receive and use the Executive reward
Costco sends the reward with the renewal statement before renewal. Its published pages differ on the precise lead time, so allow for statement processing rather than planning around an exact month. The reward is generally a paper certificate used at a staffed U.S. warehouse register, rather than self-checkout.
For Costco.com spending, Costco says you can use the certificate to buy a Shop Card at a warehouse. The reward is not guaranteed to cover the upgrade. Downgrading or canceling to obtain an upgrade-fee refund is subject to deductions for rewards already issued or accrued.

Costco membership perks and how to get value from them
Groceries, household supplies and larger purchases
Membership provides access to warehouse and online shopping across categories including groceries, clothing, home goods and electronics. The practical value depends on what you buy and use.
Build a comparison basket of ten repeat purchases: rice, cooking oil, detergent, paper products, meat or frozen foods your household regularly consumes. Compare price per ounce, pound or item with your usual stores. A cheaper unit price only saves money if the larger quantity does not create waste or replace a cheaper product you already like.
Fuel and travel
Membership can provide access to Costco gas stations and Costco Travel. Compare local pump prices and complete travel packages before assigning a dollar value to these benefits.
For example, saving an illustrative 20 cents per gallon on 40 gallons monthly would equal $96 annually. Subtract any extra driving costs. For travel, compare the same room, dates, cancellation terms and included charges; a package price is not automatically the lowest total available.
Source for included access: StackSocial’s Costco membership specifications.
Pharmacy, optical, hearing, tires and other services
Costco offers shopping or service access in these categories, with availability varying by location. Membership does not make prescriptions, glasses, hearing aids, tires or professional services free. Ask for an itemized quote, appointment requirements and relevant coverage or warranty terms.
Some legally protected purchases may be available to nonmembers. Check the local department’s requirements before joining solely to use one service.

Executive early shopping hours
Costco lists Executive hours of 9–10 a.m. Monday through Friday, 9–9:30 a.m. Saturday and 9–10 a.m. Sunday. Confirm your warehouse’s schedule and holiday exceptions. This benefit has personal value only if those times fit your routine.
The $10 monthly Same-Day credit
Executive members can receive a $10 monthly credit on an eligible order of at least $150 through Costco on Instacart or SameDay.Costco.com. Link the valid membership to the eligible account. The credit is limited to one qualifying use monthly, does not roll over and has exclusions, including alcohol, prescriptions and gift cards for the minimum-spend calculation. Fees, taxes and tips do not count toward the eligible product threshold.
Sources: Executive benefits and the detailed benefit terms on Groupon’s Costco listing.
Do not value this automatically at $120 a year. Costco says Same-Day item prices are higher than warehouse prices. A delivery credit may offset only part of the markup and other costs. Compare the final delivered basket with the cost of shopping in person.

Using your membership after joining
Set up your account and household card
Use the membership number in your confirmation to connect and verify your Costco.com account. Follow the applicable app instructions and obtain the physical card at the warehouse membership counter.
Costco includes one household card for a designated person aged 16 or older who lives at the same address. Each cardholder uses their own card. Membership is nontransferable; lending a card to a friend is not permitted. Members may bring children and up to two guests, subject to Costco’s rules; guests do not acquire independent purchasing privileges.

Bring an accepted payment method
U.S. warehouses accept Visa credit cards, most PIN-based debit cards, cash and Costco Shop Cards, among other methods. Mastercard and American Express credit cards are not standard warehouse checkout options. Mobile wallets still depend on the underlying accepted payment method. Online checkout and gas stations have their own lists, so check before relying on a particular card.
You do not need Costco’s branded Citi card to shop with another accepted payment method.

Track the bonus and renewal separately
Save your purchase receipt, enrollment confirmation, offer terms and bonus-delivery instructions. StackSocial describes emailed delivery; Groupon’s current listing describes Costco Wallet delivery. Check the method attached to your own purchase rather than relying on an older guide.
If the expected delivery window passes, use your seller confirmation to identify the correct support route. Ask the voucher seller about purchase or redemption problems and Costco about completed enrollment and missing membership incentives.
Set a reminder before renewal and review your spending. A first-year bonus should not be assumed to repeat. Check the price and renewal date shown in your account before changing your renewal settings.
Limitations that can change whether Costco is worth it
New-member rules include household memberships
The public Costco promotion excludes membership in any capacity during the previous 18 months. Being a spouse or household cardholder can therefore matter even if you never personally paid the annual fee. A different email address does not establish eligibility. Ask Costco if your history is unclear.
Refund rules are not identical across purchases
Costco advertises a satisfaction guarantee on membership and merchandise, with product-specific exceptions. That does not erase an intermediary’s voucher terms. Review the current Costco return policy and the product listing before a major purchase. Electronics, special-order goods and other categories may have different conditions; avoid treating the guarantee as an unlimited return promise.

Online and warehouse prices can differ
A Costco.com price can exceed the warehouse price, and some online merchandise is available to nonmembers with a 5% surcharge. Membership does not promise identical pricing across every channel. Check the final price and delivery terms for the exact item.

Storage, waste and impulse purchases count
An oversized pack that spoils can cost more than smaller supermarket purchases. Extra freezer space, a long drive and unplanned seasonal purchases can also reduce savings. Choose Costco because it improves your normal shopping basket, rather than expanding your spending just to use the membership.
Costco alternatives: Sam’s Club, BJ’s and shopping without a club
| Option | Standard annual fee checked | Potential reason to choose it | Main tradeoff to evaluate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Costco Gold Star | $65 | Costco assortment and services | No Executive 2% Reward |
| Costco Executive | $130 | Qualifying rewards and extra benefits | Higher fee and reward exclusions |
| Sam’s Club Club | $60 | Scan & Go, fuel and warehouse shopping | Availability and pickup requirements |
| Sam’s Club Plus | $120 | Qualifying rewards, shipping and delivery benefits | Thresholds and exclusions |
| BJ’s Club | $60 | Wholesale shopping and digital offers | Pickup fees may apply to smaller orders |
| BJ’s Club+ | $120 | Qualifying rewards and added fuel/delivery benefits | Higher fee; benefit conditions |
| Ordinary supermarkets and discount stores | No warehouse membership needed | Smaller quantities and convenient locations | Compare each item’s unit price |
Sources for competitor fees and benefits: Sam’s Club membership comparison and BJ’s membership comparison. Introductory promotions may differ from standard annual prices.
Sam’s Club
Sam’s Club’s Club tier includes Scan & Go, member fuel pricing and two membership cards. Its current comparison lists free eligible curbside pickup above $50 for Club members. Plus adds a 2% Sam’s Cash reward on qualifying in-club spending, capped at $750 annually, alongside qualifying shipping and delivery benefits with order thresholds.
Sam’s current join page also advertises Walmart+ with Plus. Check the live enrollment and bundle rules, especially if you already pay for Walmart+.
Compare travel time, your actual basket and checkout convenience. A lower introductory fee is less useful if the nearest club is inconvenient or does not carry the products you repeatedly buy.
BJ’s Wholesale Club
BJ’s lists Club at $60 and Club+ at $120 annually with Easy Renewal. Club+ advertises 2% rewards, an additional five cents per gallon off BJ’s Gas and two free Same-Day deliveries under its terms. Its comparison says pickup is free for Club+, while Club orders of $50 or less carry a $3.99 fee.
Check the live BJ’s membership page for current restrictions. Compare its digital offers with the exact products in your normal basket. Reward percentages are less useful than the final amount you pay after prices, fees and promotions.
Supermarkets, discount stores and online shopping
You may save more by combining nearby supermarket promotions, discount-store staples and occasional online purchases. This can work well for a small household, limited storage or shoppers who prefer smaller quantities.
Amazon and Walmart can also serve as comparison stores for shipped goods and household essentials. If considering a paid delivery subscription, compare its current fee, minimum order, eligible items and delivery coverage separately. A delivery subscription and warehouse membership solve overlapping but different shopping needs.
A practical way to decide before buying
Estimate savings using purchases you already expect to make:
Annual value = grocery and household savings + fuel savings + useful service savings + rewards actually earned + usable first-year bonus − membership fee − extra travel, delivery and waste costs.
For example, assume a household saves $15 monthly on its regular basket and $5 monthly on fuel. That is $240 annually. After a $65 Gold Star fee, the illustrative ongoing value is $175 before extra costs. A fully used $45 joining bonus improves the first year, but does not improve every later year.
For Executive, estimate eligible spending separately. At $5,000 annually, the illustrative reward is $100: $35 more than the $65 upgrade cost. Do not count excluded fuel spending toward that total, and do not buy extra items simply to reach the reward threshold.
Frequently asked questions
Which current offer should most new members compare first?
Start with StackSocial, Groupon and Costco’s direct $45 Shop Card offers. Their headline bonus is similar, but activation, delivery and deadlines differ. Choose the route whose terms fit your situation.
Can existing members use these offers to renew?
The researched new-member promotions exclude ordinary renewals and existing-member upgrades. Existing members should evaluate ongoing shopping savings and their current tier instead.
Can I combine StackSocial, Groupon and a student bonus?
Do not assume so. The researched seller terms prohibit combining membership promotions. Buying multiple offers does not create multiple eligible welcome bonuses.
Is Executive necessary to shop at Costco?
Gold Star provides ordinary membership shopping access. Executive adds qualifying rewards and other benefits; it is optional.
Will the Shop Card arrive immediately?
The researched offers describe a delivery window of approximately two weeks after the qualifying step. Follow your specific seller’s instructions and account requirements.
Does membership include free groceries, insurance or medical care?
No. Membership may provide access to products, service offers or member pricing. Purchases, appointments, insurance contracts and coverage have separate costs and terms.
Is a Costco membership worth it for a family of four?
It can be, especially when the household regularly uses bulk staples and has suitable storage. Household size alone does not guarantee savings. Compare a realistic basket and include waste, travel and impulse purchases.
The PostThisDeal take
For eligible newcomers who expect to shop regularly, a $65 Gold Star membership with a $45 Digital Shop Card is an attractive way to try Costco. Executive deserves a closer look when qualifying annual spending approaches $3,250 or its extra benefits have measurable value to your household.
Read the live seller terms, complete every enrollment step and choose a club based on your normal purchases and location. The best membership is the one that reduces your total shopping costs over the year.
